What is Comfort Zone Camp?
A free of charge weekend bereavement camp for kids aged 7-17 who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, primary caregiver, or significant person. The upcoming Massachusetts camp is occuring September 27-29 in Palmer, MA (~45 mins from Worcester).
What Volunteers Need to Know
· Volunteers need to attend a four hour training and be present at camp from 2 PM Friday until 4 PM Sunday on camp weekend. They will also need to pass a background check.
· Volunteers will be assigned a one-on-one match with a "little buddy" based on interests and experiences.
· Volunteers do not need to have experienced a personal loss, although many do.
· Camp is active and a lot of time is spent outdoors. Campers and volunteers sleep in rustic cabins.
There is an in-person MA volunteer training on August 17th that interested people can attend (flyer attached), as well as a virtual volunteer training on August 21st and 22nd. In order to attend training, people will need to fill out the volunteer application that is linked on both training sites. This site can also be useful for people interested in volunteering - it will guide them to the application but additionally gives them a space to reach out to CZC staff, review roles and look at some FAQ.
